How to Find Cheap Flights from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
Tips for finding affordable flights from Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport to Europe, the Gulf, and across Africa.
Abidjan's Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (ABJ) is the commercial hub of Francophone West Africa. Air France, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, and a growing number of African carriers serve the airport.
1. Paris is well-priced — but check via Casablanca too
Air France operates Abidjan–Paris directly, but Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca (CMN) is often significantly cheaper to Paris and other European cities. The connection in Casablanca is well-run and the total journey time is only 1–2 hours longer.
2. Ethiopian Airlines for Africa and Asia
Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa (ADD) is the best option for reaching East Africa, Southern Africa, or Asia from Abidjan. ET has deep discount inventory on West Africa–Addis segments and the Addis hub is excellent.
3. Book 8–10 weeks ahead
Abidjan's international routes don't have huge seat inventory. For anything beyond West Africa, book 8 to 10 weeks ahead to access the cheapest fares.
4. December is extremely expensive — plan well ahead
The Ivorian diaspora in France travels home massively in December, and fares reflect it. If you must travel in December, book at least 3–4 months ahead.
5. Compare ABJ and Accra (ACC) for some routes
Accra is a relatively short road trip from Abidjan (about 4–5 hours), and sometimes has cheaper fares on certain routes — particularly to London or the Gulf. If flexibility allows, it's worth comparing both airports.
Abidjan rewards early booking and willingness to connect. Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca and Ethiopian via Addis are your two most powerful tools for cheap fares.
