Algiers' Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG) is North Africa's fourth-busiest airport. Air Algérie is the dominant carrier, but Transavia, Tassili Airlines, and several European carriers also serve the airport. Fares can be frustrating — but knowing the patterns helps.

1. Paris has the most competition and the lowest fares

Algiers–Paris is one of the most heavily trafficked routes in the Arab world. Air Algérie, Transavia France, and occasionally low-cost carriers all compete on this route. Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly (ORY) consistently offers the cheapest fares to Europe from ALG.

2. Transavia beats Air Algérie on price most of the time

For routes to France and Spain, Transavia (Air France's low-cost subsidiary) and easyJet consistently undercut Air Algérie on base price. Always compare these before booking the national carrier.

3. Book 6–8 weeks ahead — Algeria's diaspora fills flights fast

The large Algerian diaspora in France books early for summer and December trips. For July–August and December, book 10–14 weeks ahead or you'll pay extreme prices. For other months, 6–8 weeks is fine.

4. Avoid July–August entirely if possible

This is the peak Algerian summer travel period. Prices to France can increase 3–5x compared to off-peak months. January–May and September–November are the value windows.

5. Turkish Airlines for non-French Europe and beyond

For the UK, Germany, Netherlands, or Asian connections, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is typically the best-priced option from ALG.

Algiers is tricky because of the diaspora demand pattern. Book early, consider Transavia, and avoid summer for the best fares.
