How to Find Cheap Flights from Dakar, Senegal
Strategies for finding low-cost flights from Blaise Diagne International Airport to Paris, New York, and across West Africa.
Dakar's Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) — opened in 2017 to replace the old Léopold Sédar Senghor airport — is now West Africa's most modern terminal. Air Senegal, Air France, Turkish Airlines, and Royal Air Maroc all serve the airport, giving travellers solid options.
1. Paris is the dominant corridor — and it's competitive
Dakar to Paris is one of the highest-frequency routes in West Africa. Air France, Air Senegal, and connections via Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc) all compete on this route, which keeps prices relatively honest. For Europe generally, Paris is almost always your cheapest gateway from Dakar.
2. New York is viable from Dakar
Air Senegal and connections via Paris give you access to New York. Direct Dakar–New York service has been expanding — check for direct flights first, then compare via Paris connections.
3. Turkish Airlines offers strong value to Europe and Asia
Routing via Istanbul (IST) on Turkish Airlines is often the cheapest way to reach Central and Eastern Europe or Asia from Dakar. The IST hub has excellent connections and TK's West Africa fares are competitive.
4. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for Europe
The Dakar–Paris corridor books quickly during peak periods. 6 to 8 weeks ahead is the right window for most European routes outside of summer.
5. Avoid August and December
The Senegalese diaspora in France and Europe returns home heavily in August and December — both periods see fares spike significantly. January–May and September–November are the value windows.
Dakar is well-positioned for both Europe and North America. Paris is your cheapest European gateway; Turkish Airlines is your best bet for deeper Europe and Asia.
