Lusaka's Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) serves Zambia's capital and is the country's main international gateway. Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Kenya Airways, and South African Airways all operate here, providing decent connectivity for a mid-sized African hub.

1. Johannesburg is your cheapest route to the world

Just like Harare, Johannesburg (JNB) is the most practical and often cheapest connecting hub for Lusaka travellers. The LUN–JNB route is well-served, affordable, and JNB's competition among long-haul carriers keeps prices lower than you'll typically find departing Lusaka directly.

2. Ethiopian Airlines to East Africa and Asia

Ethiopian Airlines via Addis (ADD) remains the best option for East African routes and Asian connections from Lusaka. The Addis hub has excellent onward connectivity and ET's Africa fares are competitive.

3. Emirates for Dubai and the Gulf

Emirates operates Lusaka–Dubai directly and frequently offers good fares on this corridor. For travellers to the Gulf or India, this is often the most convenient and competitive option.

4. Book 10–14 weeks ahead

Zambia's aviation market is limited in capacity. For long-haul routes from LUN, 10 to 14 weeks ahead is essential to access cheapest fares — seats fill early on the limited number of daily departures.

5. Cheapest months from Lusaka

Avoid December–January and June–August. Target February–March, September, and October for the best fares.

Lusaka's limited connectivity means connecting through JNB or ADD is almost always the smarter financial move for international travel.
